Designed by The Stylesmiths in collaboration with Travis Trewarne, the space transforms a late Victorian tenancy into an immersive, emotive retail experience, where craftsmanship, theatre and heritage converge.
As specialists in retail interior design in Melbourne, The Stylesmiths approached the project with a clear vision: respect the architectural legacy of the Arcade while introducing a contemporary layer of glamour and narrative depth. The result is a luxury boutique that feels both timeless and transportive.
The ground floor is conceived as a dramatic jewel box, anchored by a sculptural custom light installation that immediately signals a departure from traditional retail. Bespoke joinery, handcrafted display vitrines and richly detailed wallcoverings create a sense of discovery, while jewellery-specific lighting and integrated security ensure seamless performance. Art Nouveau references and botanical murals weave old-world romance into a modern commercial setting, complemented by a custom Catherine Martin rug that grounds the space in artisanal craftsmanship.
Upstairs, the boutique shifts into a private client retreat inspired by a Parisian apartment. Rich greens, blush hues, velvet and brass envelop visitors in warmth and intimacy, offering a slower, more personal consultation environment. The visible jeweller’s workshop reinforces authenticity, placing craftsmanship at the forefront of the client experience.
Balancing bold design within one of Melbourne’s most recognisable heritage buildings required sensitivity and precision.
