Blairgowrie Residence features a contemporary kitchen design that balances coastal warmth with bold materiality, transforming the original beach house into a sophisticated full-time family home. Designed by The Stylesmiths, the kitchen was reimagined to improve functionality, maximise storage and create a stronger connection between the surrounding living spaces.
Originally defined by lighter timber finishes and a traditional beach house aesthetic, the kitchen was elevated through a darker, more refined material palette. Matte black cabinetry, bronze mirror splashbacks and integrated European appliances introduce depth and contrast, while warm timber flooring and natural light soften the moodier finishes. The result is a contemporary coastal kitchen that feels both dramatic and inviting.
A large island bench anchors the space, designed not only for cooking and entertaining but also to support the clients’ everyday lifestyle. When traditional island seating proved impractical, The Stylesmiths introduced custom under-bench joinery with integrated storage drawers and a concealed technology station, ensuring the kitchen remained highly functional without compromising the clean architectural aesthetic.
Materiality played a central role throughout the design. Inspired by the rugged Mornington Peninsula landscape, the kitchen combines natural textures with robust finishes including blackened steel, artisan concrete and timber detailing. Pendant lighting above the island creates warmth and atmosphere while highlighting the sculptural simplicity of the joinery.
The kitchen connects seamlessly to the surrounding dining and living spaces through a custom integrated entertainment unit that subtly zones the open-plan layout. This thoughtful spatial planning creates a more intimate and practical flow throughout the home while maintaining openness and connection.
