Sports & Aquatic Centre

The Glen Eira Sports and Aquatic Centre (GESAC) is a well-established Melbourne destination for fitness, wellness and community connection. Approaching its 10-year milestone, The Stylesmiths were engaged to deliver a thoughtful interior design upgrade that enhances both functionality and user experience across this high-traffic facility.

Led by The Stylesmiths, the project reimagined key zones including reception, retail, gym, café and wellness spaces, creating a cohesive environment that reflects GESAC’s inclusive ethos: “Every Body is Welcome.”

The refreshed entry foyer acts as a central hub, connecting visitors to the gym, aquatic areas, retail and café. A key design objective was to ensure a seamless transition between existing and new elements, resulting in a space that feels unified and intuitive.

Durable, sustainable materials were prioritised throughout. Marmoleum flooring, a biodegradable, natural product, was selected for its environmental benefits and resilience, while slip-resistant marine carpet improves accessibility around pool areas.

The interiors balance neutrality with warmth, creating a welcoming environment for a diverse range of users. Natural textures, brick finishes and tactile materials introduce depth, while tropical planting softens the architecture and reflects the aquatic setting.

Custom retail displays and flexible merchandising units add functionality while enhancing visual interest within the reception zone.

Upstairs, the gym and studio areas have been completely revitalised to support modern fitness experiences. The Pilates studio now sits within a light-filled, glass-enclosed space, featuring acoustic flooring and soft curtains to create a calm, private atmosphere.

In contrast, the cycle studio delivers a high-energy environment with dark finishes, neon lighting and tiered seating, designed for immersive, technology-driven classes.

The GESAC upgrade demonstrates The Stylesmiths’ expertise in commercial interior design, blending durability, sustainability and user-focused planning. The result is a contemporary fitness and wellness environment that supports both performance and community connection.
