Paul’s Place is a contemporary coastal home on Victoria’s Mornington Peninsula, designed by The Stylesmiths as a creative retreat that balances relaxed living, entertaining and artistic inspiration. Hidden among the tea trees and coastal landscape of Rye, the renovated 1950s weatherboard home blends modern interior design with nostalgic charm, creating a highly personal space tailored to both work and everyday living.
Originally relocated and upcycled decades earlier, the home was completely reimagined to support open-plan living and stronger connections between indoor and outdoor spaces. Working closely with the homeowner, an accomplished screenwriter and producer, The Stylesmiths created interiors that encourage conversation, creativity and calm. The result is a refined example of coastal interior design in Australia, where natural materials, bold colour and relaxed functionality come together seamlessly.
The layout was redesigned to maximise flow and social connection, with living areas opening directly onto the outdoor deck and surrounding landscape. A warm amber-toned living room anchors the home, layered with vibrant artwork, green velvet upholstery, timber furniture and curated objects that reflect the owner’s personality and creative lifestyle. Large windows frame views of the natural surroundings, replacing the need for screens and encouraging moments of stillness and connection with nature.
At the centre of the home, the kitchen was inspired by the textures and tones of the Mornington Peninsula landscape. One of the project’s standout features is the custom indoor-outdoor breakfast bar, where a hydraulic awning window opens directly onto the external deck, creating a seamless entertaining experience and strengthening the connection between architecture and environment.
Paul’s Place reflects The Stylesmiths’ approach to residential interior design and contemporary coastal living, creating homes that feel layered, personal and deeply connected to lifestyle. The result is a warm and creative sanctuary designed for entertaining, relaxation and inspiration.
