Glen Eira City Council embarked on a transformative journey to rejuvenate its workplace environments within the historic Caulfield Town Hall. The mission was clear – to usher in contemporary workspace typologies, bidding farewell to outdated cellular layouts and embracing an open-plan hybrid office setting.
The imperative was to modernise workspaces, aligning them with current methodologies and the evolving preferences of a new workforce generation. The vision extended beyond aesthetic upgrades, seeking to foster collaboration, flexibility, and a dynamic work culture. The revitalisation effort spanned three levels of the town hall—ground floor, level 1, and level 3. The diverse spaces addressed included workspaces, meeting rooms, collaboration areas, breakout zones, social spaces, and the Service Centre, the primary public interface of the town hall.
A pragmatic, cost-effective, and sustainable approach guided the selection of materials. Longevity was a key criterion, considering the infrequency of such renovations for the Council. Sustainability was paramount, with materials chosen for their environmental credentials. The colour palette, neutral yet timeless (greys, blues, and greens), was infused with warm pops of terracotta and yellow to add character to each space.
Furniture was sourced from reputable suppliers, the commitment to sustainability was evident, with choices like recycled materials, take-back recycling programs, and low VOC content paints.
The project’s success lies in its seamless integration of bold architectural features with meticulous office interior design, creating a harmonious continuum from exterior to interior. The incorporation of diverse workspaces, strategic use of colour, and a sustainable ethos distinguish this renovation.
